We had interpreters, plus one of the girls who came with us from my uni was Chinese who spoke Mandarin and Cantonese. All the students can speak english since it's mandatory in elementary school... although theyre not great at it, you can understand what they mean.
All I knew how to say is hello, thanks, and bye.
It's a beautiful place. I have been to Shanghai for security convention and Expo in 2010. It's a city mixed with oldness and with super high-rises. Did you go to night food markets? Awesome stuff there.

Haven't you though you eating too much stuff being the actual problem? But yeah, Asian food is amazing, except indian/thai food, spicy ones specially (being more common in some types of cuisine than others AFAIK).
Of course China is sweet, the nasty stuff doesn't always happen or isn't as bad as some stuff in the american continent, at least South America (though serious human rights violations aren't easy to see or grasp most of the time anywhere, like in Colombia). It can also depend a lot on visited regions, most people say is nice at the common tourist regions for any country, like Cuba.
I thought it would be longer your trip to China. Glad to know you're back. Any new animation plans?

dude, my cousin was in the EXACT same scenario as you, except he did shit his pants. He started walking around all funny so it wouldn't fall out his pants, and he smelled terrible. Needless to say, he wasn't invited back
I don't think I could ever get to the point were i'd shit myself in public rather than just leave and go to the toilet, however at the time I did feel like that would happen. I feel sorry for your cousin. I think i'd need therapy after something like that :P
